    Why USA is a great for extreme sports ?

    Skateboarding is one of the most popular action sports in 21st century America. It took off in the 1970s to became part of the mainstream in the late 1990s thanks to the great success of Tony Hawk, video games and the X Games in USA. 

    “For the history, the first skatepark in the world opened for business in Tucson, Arizona in 1965 (Surf City). It is not a coincidence !“

    10. Les Coleman Skatepark (Manhattan Bridge skatepark)

    This place is often named as one of the coolest skatepark in the world for a good reason. Indeed, this is definitely a spot to catch some of the bigger names skating. This is a classic skatepark with old school vibes with a half-acre of ramps, slopes and also rails underneath the Manhattan Bridge. The park was redesigned in 2012 by Steve Rodriguez thanks to funding from Nike SB (see the video below).

    9. Huntington Beach “Off the wall” skatepark vans

    This skatepark is open Monday-Sunday from 9AM – 8PM. It features :
    1. A 17,500 square-foot transition area with a clover bowl and custom hybrid backyard bowl/flow combination. 
    2. A huge 25,000 square foot street area with stairs/gaps for jumping and plenty of metal edges for grinding. It also features a double-kinked handrail (40 feet long) and a dazzling volcano.

    8. Woodward East Plaza

    There are two big indoor parks featuring jump boxes, rails, transition pyramids and quarterpipes. The outdoor park contains a wild street area, a vert ramp and many others features. You might know this famous place. I saw it in a lot of crazy videos. The Plaza, built by California Skateparks is in the center of camp. It is a hot spot for skaters all day long.

    7. Lake Cunningham Regional Skatepark

    The Lake Cunningham Regional Skatepark is insane ! It’s the California’s Largest Skatepark with 68,000 square feet. Indeed, you can find there :

    • the Tallest Vert Wall in the world
    • the world Largest Full Pipe
    • the Largest Cradle worldwide
    • a skull Bowl
    • Multi Bowl
    • a street Course
    • a travelodge Bowl
    • a box Jump
    • an olympic Bowl
    • a thimble
    • Boxes, rails etc.

    You might want to know that. It’s a statepark so during the day so : $10 for parking (free after 6pm). The park costs around $5 (pads mandatory).

    6. FDR Skatepark

    The FDR park is vast and with a lot of different obstacles to skate with the 4-foot “Dome” and the 60-foot long “Bunker”. It has been recognized by both Skateboarder magazine and Thrasher as “a skateboarding paradise”. Indeed, there are several “areas”, including the core park, a pool section, a mini ramp and vert ramp. Moreover, if you are a fan of the Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground video game, you will enjoy it.

    5. Lincoln City Skatepark

    Lincoln City Skate Park is one of the largest skateparks in the state of Oregon. Therefore, it was billed as the “gnarliest” skatepark in America by Thrasher Magazine. The skatepark has three different sections. There is also a little street area, a cradle, a covered bowl and a snake run.

    4. Louisville Skatepark

    The park is formerly known as the Louisville Extreme Park with a 24-foot full pipe which is one of the biggest for any skateboarding park in USA. With 40,000 square foot, it’s a crazy public skatepark located near downtown Louisville, Kentucky, in the Butchertown neighborhood. You will find an insane full pipe, bowls, fun boxes, a street course, a flat bank, ledges, rails, a wooden vert ramp.

    3. Rhodes Skatepark

    Rhodes Skatepark is in the heart of downtown Boise. It is an insine place with 40,000 sq-ft of skateable space. This park opened in 1995 and was named for its original builder, Glenn Rhodes. In 2016 the skatepark reopened after a renovation period by Grindline Skateparks. Rhodes Skatepark has been featured by ESPN as a pre-qualifier venue for X Games.

    This massive skatepark is located along the Platte River in thenorth of Downtown Denver. It is one of the largest park in USA with concrete, rails, bowls, transitions and coping all over the place. A a result, I love it !

    1. Burnside Skate Park (Portland)

    This amazing skatepark is located under the east end of Burnside Bridge in Portland. Burnside was created in 1990. It has expanded and developed over the past 20 years to become the the most famous DIY skatepark over the world. It consists of obstacles inspired by pool-skating and transition with :

    • a main concrete wall at the east end of the park
    • a deep bowl at the northeast
    • a shallow bowl (with metal coping) at the northwest corner
    • an extended quarter pipe at the south wall
    • and at the southwest corner, 2 concrete bowl pockets facing each other
